Biography
Dr. Aisha Haynes is the Assistant Director at the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE): University of South Carolina – Columbia. She oversees the CTE's Instructional Design services. Dr. Haynes is a certified Quality Matters Peer and Master Reviewer, and has earned Online Teaching certifications from the Online Learning Consortium. She has been designing online courses for more than ten years. Dr. Haynes teaches an online Computer Applications in Business course for Palmetto College and a Principles of Action Research course for the College of Education. Her research interests include: instructional design in online learning environments, online course accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and collaboration and engagement in online learning environments. She is on the Board of Directors of Family Promise of the Midlands and the co-chapter leader of the Columbia, SC chapter of the National Stuttering Association.
In 2013, Dr. Haynes established the Dr. Aisha S. Haynes Endowed Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded to first generation/low-income college students in TRiO Programs (Opportunity Scholars Program) at the University of South Carolina-Columbia. More specifically, the scholarship is awarded to rising seniors who have at least a 3.0 GPA and who have shown exemplary University or Community Service. Learn more about the Dr. Aisha S. In 2023, Dr. Haynes established the Dr. Aisha S. Haynes Opportunity Endowed Scholarship Fund for Inspiring Excellence. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide support for scholarship(s) for first generation students at USC Sumter. The scholarship will be awarded by USC Sumter's Scholarship Committee to students who have demonstrated financial need and are among the first generation in their family to pursue a college degree.
Dr. Haynes has been featured in articles, including USC TRiO Messenger, USC "Nothing to Hide", USC TRiO Opportunity Scholars Program Pacesetter Award Winner, USC "Online Reach", the United States Department of Education's "An Introduction to Student Service" fact sheet, University of South Carolina's "Carolina changes everything" 2015-2016 Endowment Report, A decade of opportunity, and USC Social Justice Award Winners. In addition, she has participated in numerous activities around the community, state and country. Dr. Haynes was named to The State's 20 under 40 class for 2022.
